Principal and Founder, Mrs. Vita Dunk started Mount Pleasant Basic school in Jamaica 39 years ago because she wanted to make a difference in her community.

A small village in Haiti will have hope renewed when poverty begins to recede, through the development of agricultural projects, the building of homes and water wells, and the installation of street lights.

We are excited to launch our “It Takes a Village to Build a Village” campaign, reaching out to our village of Canadian donors to help us raise funds to build a village in Haiti over the next 9 months, breaking ground in June 2019.

Homes are being rebuilt. Schools are getting new roofs. Electricity once again powers lights and cooling fans.

FFPC donors and volunteers have built over 30 schools throughout Jamaica

This past week, Food For The Poor Canada (FFPC) and Food For The Poor Jamaica welcomed Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation to build Mount Pleasant Basic School in St. Margarets Bay, Jamaica.

Wakefield Infant School will provide free, quality education to the youngest in the community.

As Food For The Poor Canada continues the celebration of it’s 10th year, the second of three schools to be built this year took place this week in Wakefield, Trelawny, Jamaica.

29 students, 4 teachers and one ancillary staff will directly benefit from the new school with proper facilities, conducive to teaching and learning and a more safe and healthy environment.

Together with our education partner Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation, Food For The Poor staff participated in the annual 5k walk for education also known as the Jam-walk to help raise funds for our upcoming school build in July in Port Antonio, Jamaica.

We recently joined forces with ICHS Alumnae Association Toronto Chapter to help rebuild the Food and Nutrition Labs at Immaculate Conception High School in Jamaica.
