Last weekend, Food For The Poor Canada and Food For The Poor Jamaica in partnership with Helping Hands Jamaica and the NFL’s Orlando Franklin #74 Foundation joined forces to build Disciples of Christ Basic School in Portland, Jamaica.
Disciples of Christ has consistently failed at its attempts to become certified as an early childhood facility by the Early Childhood Commission (ECC) in Jamaica. The construction of a new school building with all the required amenities stipulated by the ECC and the installation of a solar-powered system, will put the school in a much better position to receive certification as an early childhood institution.
This was Food For The Poor Canada’s 25th school build in Jamaica since the charity was founded 10 years ago! We work closely with community leaders and the Ministry of Education in Jamaica to help fill the gap in areas where children lack access to education.

Disciples of Christ Basic School was built with funds raised at the Helping Hands Walkathon earlier this summer.
Thank you Helping Hands Jamaica, Orlando Franklin #74 Foundation and all the volunteers for giving this meaningful gift to the community of Hope Bay, Portland, Jamaica.
