Students of Nicholson Catholic College and Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School are making a difference by building homes for families in need in Jamaica.
These mission trips have become an annual tradition for the two Ontario schools. The students work together throughout the year to raise funds for the trip. They then get to see the results of their efforts unfold right before them during the day of the build.
As one student of Holy Cross describes it:
“The house build is something I’m really looking forward to because when we wake up that morning these people won’t have a home, but when we go to bed that night, they will. A lot of time when you donate to a charity, you don’t know where that money or effort is going, but we’ll get real visual results of where this is affecting people.”
Abby George, a 12th grade student of Nicholson, said: “I wanted to try and make a difference in someone’s life but I couldn’t do it on my own so I am doing it as a part of a group.”
