Melody, a single mother with two children from Ham Walk, Jamaica previously lived in a one bedroom house that was infested with termites and had a roof that leaked when it rained.
Melody and her sons were one of the recipients of a new home in 2016, funded by students from Holy Cross Catholic School in Kingston, Ontario. The twenty Grade 11 and Grade 12 students traveled to Jamaica on a week long mission trip. During their week, they spend a day working with Melody and her songs to build two bedroom home. The students took part in the building and painting of the home. By the end of the day, they were able to pass the keys to Melody and her sons.
This is the 10th home that the students of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School have built with Food For The Poor Canada. The students raise money for the trip and home construction throughout the year.
