We are excited to share that 70 students have received Samsung tablets!

In 2021 we set out to raise funds for our newly launched campaign – “A Computer For Every Child.” We saw a gap in the capacity for e-learning and campaigned to purchase devices for students in-need across Jamaica.

70 Samsung devices were distributed for students to use during the 2021-2022 school year! These students now have access to the necessary tools to succeed in a virtual learning environment and to improve their digital literacy skills.

This was only made possible through the incredible generosity of our donors and a Canada-wide, collaborative effort with the Jamaican Consul General, the High Commissioner of Jamaica to Canada, and the Alliance of Jamaican Alumni Associations.

Problem:

Due to the pandemic, the educational landscape had completely changed. In Jamaica, schools had closed and classes moved online for lengthy periods of time. This caused a significant number of children to be unable to participate in the virtual learning process. But it also provided an opportunity to help close the digital divide, and give Jamaican youth a better chance at succeeding in life.

Your Impact:

  • 70 tablets distributed, with 3 months of internet data
  • Improving access to essential online teaching and e-learning during the pandemic
  • Advancing digital literacy skills
  • Students from priority schools supported
  • Strengthened partnerships with amazing Jamaican organizations

STORY:

“I am very thankful for the tablet. It will really help us with her schoolwork which is hard to do online without a device. I had a phone that we were using, but that was also a challenge. We are happy for what Food For The Poor has done. It’s going to be our number one item and we are going to take very good care of it.”

Thank you for giving Jamaican students greater access to education and digital literacy!
