ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
An empowered livelihood is vital for individuals and communities to thrive, progress, and enjoy life.

At its core, it is the ability to secure basic needs, such as food, water, shelter, and clothing. Beyond these fundamental needs, it is the means by which economic stability is created through income-generating opportunities. For individuals and families living in poverty, this is an extreme challenge as they are already fighting other battles.
Food For The Poor Canada works to help individuals caught in the cycle of poverty develop a sustainable livelihood and eventually a pathway out of poverty. This helps individuals and families reduce their vulnerability, enhance their self-reliance, and strengthen their resilience towards a stable and nurtured life. It also reinforces social inclusion and community development.
SUPPORT FOR ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT HELPS US TO:
• Host income-generating workshops and vocational training programs, such as barbering, carpentry, and sewing.
• Develop agriculture and livestock small-farm projects, such as coffee farming, beekeeping, chicken rearing, plant husbandry, and fishing.
• Promote gender equality by supporting women's empowerment workshop and initiatives.
OVERVIEW OF OUR IMPACT:
• Supported 30 small-farm farmers with training, tools and seeds (for agriculture), plants (for coffee farming), or animals (bees or chickens) to initiate their farm.
• Granted scholarships to 25 women in Honduras for transportation school.
• Led the construction of a women’s income-generation centre.
Our Economic Empowerment Fund aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goal #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
